1. Dental Cavities / Decay

Cavities, also called as tooth decay or caries are generally referred to a permanent damage happens on your teeth structure. They are commonly caused by a certain species of bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria can convert the sugar in your food into acids and corrode your teeth overtime. Increased frequency or intake of sugary food and poor oral hygiene can contribute to bacterial growth in your mouth.

2. Dental Injury, Cracked or Chipped Tooth

Teeth may look tough, and it is also one of the strongest structures in our body. However, it does not mean it cannot break. Common causes of cracked or chipped tooth includes bitting down on hard substances, like ice or nuts, having a traumatic injury from contact sports, involving in motor vehicle accident, or grinding teeth at night.

Some people who have dentin hypersensitivity may experience pain or discomfort caused by certain stimuli including hot or cold food and beverages, sweet or acidic food, certain type of mouth rinses, or even just cold air. People with thinner enamel are also more susceptible to sensitive teeth.  

4. Wisdom Teeth Problems

Wisdom teeth are the third molars at the back of the mouth and they usually emerge between 16-25 years old. In many cases, there may not have enough rooms in our mouth for the wisdom teeth to grow, thus the wisdom teeth can cause pain and other dental problems, e.g., impacting and damaging other teeth.

5. Hyperdontia / Too Many Teeth

6. Gum Disease / Gingivitis / Periodontitis

Healthy gums are firm and pale pink. However, if you are experiencing gum infection, your gums may look swollen and puffy, easy to bleed, painful chewing, and usually bright red or dusky red in colour. Factors of gum disease includes poor oral hygiene, smoking, hormonal changes, inadequate nutrition like vitamin C and certain disease, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. Gum disease can lead to tooth lost, and studies have shown that periodontal disease are also associated with heart disease

7. Tooth Abscess

Tooth abscess is a pocket of pus caused by infection. They can happen in the gum, or tooth root, usually happens as a result when a dental cavity or a dental injury are left untreated. Dentist will have to assess it, drain the tooth and get rid of the infection from the abscess. Tooth abscess won’t go away by itself. If left untreated, the infection may spread to other areas, including your jaws, or head and neck, and may develop life-threating condition called Sepsis.
